Marezige – The Silence of Hills above the Sea

After a rather chilly summer in Austria’s Carinthia, we headed south — to a new country on our route and discover a new coastline: the Slovenian Riviera. We stayed in a charming hilltop village called Marezige, just a short drive from the popular coastal town of Koper

For a week, this small village became our peaceful retreat. Though it lies a bit inland and not directly by the sea, Marezige offered something far more precious — space to breathe. The hills around are covered with vineyards, olive groves, and narrow paths leading into quiet forests where time seems to slow down. It’s the kind of place where the sound of cicadas replaces traffic, and where sunsets linger longer than you expect.

From our terrace, we could see both the Adriatic Sea and the distant mountains shimmering in the evening light. The mix of warm air, gentle winds, and the scent of herbs and pine made every evening feel like a small celebration of stillness.

Marezige turned out to be more than just a stop between destinations — it was a reminder that sometimes the best coastal experience is found not on the shore, but high above it, where you can see the whole world at once and hear nothing but the rustle of nature.
