🌿 Talsi – the town of nine hills and quiet reflections

Sometimes the warmest memories are not born in big cities, but in places like Talsi — a small Latvian town where time seems to slow down. Talsi is often called the “town of nine hills,” but on that day, for us, it became the town of one special lake — calm, mirror-like, almost meditative. Here, you don’t need to search for attractions — it’s enough just to be and look around.

We started the day with coffee right by the water. A small, cozy café near the lake — the kind of place where you want to stay a little longer than planned. A warm drink in your hands, the quiet surface of the lake in front of you, and the feeling that there is nowhere you need to rush. We slowly walked around the lake — my mother and I. The paths gently follow the water, revealing new views: reflections of houses, soft hills, and sunlight that makes everything feel a little brighter and kinder. Climbing higher, we stopped to look at the town from above. And in that moment, it became especially clear — how little is needed to feel happy.

Near the Evangelical Lutheran chapel, something completely unexpected happened. Suddenly, the Ukrainian anthem began to play. It spread over the lake, over the hills, over the quiet town — calm, yet deeply moving. In that peaceful setting, it felt even more powerful. We stopped. Listened. And simply felt. It was one of those rare moments when a place becomes more than just a point on the map — it becomes an experience that stays within you.

Sunshine, clear skies, the calmness of the water, and a sense of closeness — to nature, to people, to yourself. Days like this don’t require anything special, yet they stay with you for a long time. Talsi will forever remain in memory as a quiet, gentle, and truly real moment.
