Learning to Breathe Again in Kraków

Kraków was the first city we arrived in after the war began. Everything around us felt heavy — yet at the same time full of quiet solidarity. The streets, the people, the small gestures all seemed to breathe shock, empathy, and deep support for our country.

The city welcomed us with unexpected kindness. Kraków felt gentle and understanding, as if it knew we needed calm more than impressions. We spent a peaceful week there, slowly processing what had happened and trying to understand what our next steps might be.

We had visited Kraków before, briefly, for just one day. But this time was different. Staying longer allowed us to see the city not as tourists passing through, but as people temporarily living within its rhythm. We walked a lot — without rushing, without plans. We visited the zoo, watched families and children, noticed smiling faces around us. Those smiles mattered more than we could have imagined at the time.

Kraków taught us how to pause. How to be present. How to accept support without words. In this city, we quietly learned how to keep living, one day at a time.

Looking back, Kraków will always remain a special place for us — not because of monuments or sights, but because of the warmth, humanity, and space it gave us when we needed it most.
