Sofiyivka Dendrological Park – Lakes, Hills, Swans and Slow Walks Through Nature

Sofiyivka Dendrological Park in Uman is one of those places where you immediately feel that you need time. Time to walk, to look around, to slow down and simply enjoy being surrounded by nature. We came here by car and planned to spend the whole day inside the park — and it was absolutely the right decision.

The park is huge and very diverse. Some parts feel like a classical landscape garden with long alleys and carefully designed views, while others look almost wild, with dense trees, rocks and narrow paths. Walking through Sofiyivka feels like constantly changing scenery: lakes with calm reflections, small waterfalls, bridges, and open meadows suddenly appear after shaded forest paths. At some point, we decided to leave the main alleys and explore the hills around the park. This small detour turned into one of the best parts of our walk. The paths were quieter, with fewer people, and from the top we could see large parts of the park from above. The view over the lakes and green valleys gave a completely different understanding of how big and beautifully planned this place really is.

Swans were everywhere. On several lakes we saw them swimming slowly, sometimes very close to the paths. Watching them glide over the water added a special calm feeling to the whole experience. It was one of those moments when you just stop, take photos, and enjoy the silence. Later, we also took a boat ride, which is a great way to see Sofiyivka from another perspective. From the water, the park feels even more peaceful. You move slowly, pass under trees and along rocks, and the usual park sounds fade into the background. It’s not about speed or attractions — it’s about enjoying the moment and the surroundings.

What we liked most about Sofiyivka is that it is not only about famous viewpoints or specific attractions. It’s about walking without hurry, choosing your own paths, sometimes getting a little lost, and discovering quiet corners that are not on every postcard. You can easily combine relaxed strolling with small hikes and longer routes, depending on how much energy you have. This visit reminded us how important it is to sometimes step away from busy cities and screens and just spend time outdoors. Sofiyivka is perfect for that: beautiful, calm, and full of little details that make you want to stay longer. We left tired, but in the best possible way — refreshed, relaxed, and already thinking about coming back again.

Софіївський дендрологічний парк в Умані — це місце, де одразу розумієш, що тут не варто поспішати. Хочеться йти повільно, роздивлятися навколо, робити паузи і просто насолоджуватися природою. Ми приїхали автомобілем і вирішили провести в парку цілий день — і це було дуже правильне рішення.

Парк величезний і дуже різноманітний. В одних частинах він виглядає як класичний ландшафтний сад з довгими алеями та продуманими панорамами, а в інших — майже як дика природа з густими деревами, камінням і вузькими стежками. Під час прогулянки пейзаж постійно змінюється: озера з віддзеркаленням неба, невеликі водоспади, мости та відкриті галявини з’являються після затінених лісових ділянок. У якийсь момент ми вирішили зійти з основних маршрутів і пройтися пагорбами навколо парку. Цей невеликий обхід став одним із найкращих моментів нашої прогулянки. Там було значно менше людей, а з висоти відкривався чудовий вид на великі частини парку. Озера, зелені долини та алеї зверху виглядали зовсім інакше і дозволяли по-новому оцінити масштаб і красу цього місця.

Лебедів ми бачили дуже багато. На кількох озерах вони спокійно плавали зовсім поруч із доріжками. Спостерігати за ними було справжнім задоволенням і додавало ще більше відчуття спокою та гармонії. Пізніше ми також покаталися на човні. Це зовсім інший спосіб побачити парк. З води все здається ще спокійнішим: рухаєшся повільно, пливеш повз дерева і каміння, а навколо лише тихі звуки природи. Тут немає поспіху — тільки момент і краєвид.

Найбільше в Софіївці нам сподобалося те, що вона не обмежується кількома відомими локаціями. Тут можна обирати власний маршрут, гуляти без плану, інколи трохи заблукати і знаходити тихі куточки, куди доходять не всі туристи. Це ідеальне місце як для спокійних прогулянок, так і для більш активних маршрутів із підйомами. Ця поїздка ще раз нагадала, наскільки важливо іноді вириватися з міського ритму і просто бути на природі. Софіївський парк чудово підходить для такого відпочинку: красивий, спокійний і наповнений дрібними деталями, які хочеться розглядати знову і знову. Ми поїхали звідти приємно втомлені, але дуже задоволені й уже з думками про наступний візит.

Der dendrologische Park Sofijiwka in Uman ist ein Ort, an dem man sofort merkt: Hier braucht man Zeit. Zeit zum Spazieren, zum Schauen, zum Innehalten und einfach zum Geniessen der Natur. Wir sind mit dem Auto angereist und haben bewusst geplant, den ganzen Tag im Park zu verbringen — und das war genau die richtige Entscheidung.

Der Park ist sehr gross und unglaublich abwechslungsreich. In manchen Bereichen erinnert er an einen klassischen Landschaftsgarten mit breiten Wegen und sorgfältig gestalteten Ausblicken, in anderen wirkt er fast wie unberührte Natur mit dichten Bäumen, Felsen und schmalen Pfaden. Während des Spaziergangs ändert sich die Umgebung ständig: ruhige Seen, kleine Wasserfälle, Brücken und offene Wiesen wechseln sich mit schattigen Waldabschnitten ab. Irgendwann haben wir die Hauptwege verlassen und sind über die Hügel rund um den Park gelaufen. Dieser kleine Abstecher wurde zu einem der schönsten Teile unseres Besuchs. Dort war es deutlich ruhiger, und von oben hatten wir einen großartigen Blick über weite Teile des Parks. Die Seen und grünen Täler aus der Vogelperspektive zu sehen, zeigte noch einmal, wie weitläufig und gut durchdacht diese Anlage ist.

Schwäne haben wir an mehreren Stellen gesehen. Sie schwammen ruhig auf den Seen, teilweise ganz nah an den Wegen entlang. Ihnen zuzusehen hatte etwas sehr Beruhigendes und passte perfekt zur entspannten Stimmung des Parks. Später haben wir auch eine Bootsfahrt gemacht, was eine völlig andere Perspektive auf Sofijiwka eröffnet. Vom Wasser aus wirkt alles noch ruhiger. Man gleitet langsam vorbei an Bäumen und Felsen, hört das leise Plätschern des Wassers und vergisst für eine Weile alles andere.

Was uns an Sofijiwka besonders gefallen hat, ist, dass der Park nicht nur aus bekannten Fotospots besteht. Es geht vielmehr darum, ohne Eile zu spazieren, eigene Wege zu wählen, manchmal ein wenig vom Plan abzuweichen und stille Ecken zu entdecken, die nicht jeder sieht. Man kann hier gemütlich bummeln, aber auch längere und etwas anstrengendere Routen mit Steigungen einbauen. Dieser Besuch hat uns wieder daran erinnert, wie gut es tut, Zeit in der Natur zu verbringen und Abstand vom Alltag zu bekommen. Sofijiwka ist dafür ein perfekter Ort: ruhig, wunderschön und voller kleiner Details, die man erst beim genauen Hinsehen entdeckt. Wir sind müde, aber sehr entspannt zurückgefahren — und mit dem Gefühl, dass wir hier irgendwann noch einmal herkommen möchten.
