Two Magical Days in Guarda – A Village That Breathes History

Our two days in Guarda, a small mountain village in the canton of Graubünden, felt like stepping into a living postcard. From the very first moments, we were struck by the houses — each one carefully preserved, each façade telling its own story through sgraffito decorations, wooden balconies, and centuries-old stone walls. It truly feels like every home here is quietly breathing its own history.

Surrounded by mountains, Guarda offers views that are hard to describe with words alone. Snow-capped peaks rise in the distance, the air is unbelievably fresh, and the silence is so pure that you begin to hear your own thoughts more clearly. Now and then, the calm is gently broken by the sound of horses grazing on nearby meadows — a simple, peaceful scene that feels timeless.

One of the most charming moments was the journey from the train station up to the village. A small shuttle bus winds its way along narrow mountain roads, climbing curve after curve, slowly revealing wider and wider panoramas of the valley below. It’s not just transportation — it already feels like part of the adventure, a quiet transition from everyday life into mountain serenity.

In the heart of the village, we found a cozy, soulful restaurant where time seemed to slow down. Warm light, friendly smiles, and simple, honest food created an atmosphere that felt more like visiting friends than dining out. After long walks through stone-paved streets, it was the perfect place to rest, talk, and simply enjoy being there.

Guarda left us with a deep feeling of calm and gratitude. It’s not a place of loud attractions or crowded viewpoints — instead, it offers something much rarer: peace, beauty, and a strong sense of connection to nature and history. Two days were enough to fall in love, but certainly not enough to forget.
